What gives you great joy? What can you do to turn it into great joy for others? This adventure I stumbled upon was a true example of someone taking their passion and turning it into a gift to others– hence doubling his own joy!
Mike A. DePetrillo says it all started with ego-he wanted to be in The Genius Book of Records. He wanted to set a world record and have the most drummers gathered together playing the same beat in unison. One day he heard about a deficiet at his local food bank-and from then on history and records were made. He was proactive. He decided to have the drummers contribute cans of food to the food bank as their admission to “Drum Day,” seven years later and over 30,000 pounds of food, this one dude generously merged his passion with a need and has literally and figuratively made an impact in “beating” hunger. He says it’s his favorite day of the year, “better than Christmas.”
So I have decided my New Years quest is to find a way to somehow merge my passion and give back. I can’t think of a more rewarding way to give back. I’ll let you know when I get it going, I’m not even sure what it is yet. Let me know if you find a passionate giving sweet spot–we all have one! Just gotta listen for the beat!
